Fillers last anywhere from 9 months to 1.5 years depending on the material injected.
Botulinum toxins last 3-4 months.
Recovery from fillers is a day or so; Radiesse can leave you with some bruising which may take a few days to go away. No exercise for 2 days after injection
Botulinum toxins have a faster recovery and you can resume normal activities the following day.
What is a skin filler?
Skin fillers are materials typically made of hyaluronic acids that can be injected into the upper parts of the skin to elevate deep skin lines and wrinkles and give fuller cheeks and lips.
The materials stay anywhere from 9 months ( Belotero, Juvederm, Restalyn) to 1-1.5 years with Radiesse. Some materials like Voluma are specific for making the cheeks larger.
The injections are through small needles that cause minimal pain. There is some swelling that decreases within a few days. Bruising is variable and depends on the material injected.
What is Botox (Botulinum toxin)?
Botulinum toxins such as Botox, Xeomin, Dysport and others are materials that are injected into the skin at areas of wrinkles caused by muscle action and which de-activate the nerve stimulus to the muscle and hence cause a relaxation of the muscle. This leads to less deep lines being seen. Typically injections are made into the area between the eyebrows, forehead, crows feet, lip lines, neck lines. The effect lasts about 3 - 4 months and then needs to be repeated. Bruising and swelling are minimal.
