Typically, the procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure and takes between 2 hours depending on the number of ancillary procedures performed. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia.
There is minimal pain associated with the procedure, and any discomfort is controlled well by oral pain medication.
A Brow lift procedure will elevate the sagging skin of the brow that forms a heavy eyelid. Deep wrinkles of the forehead will be improved. Other smaller wrinkles of the skin will continue to be visible after the surgery and may need laser resurfacing or chemical peels to improve the quality .
Typically, the results of the surgery last between seven and ten years; sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on the aging process, quality of skin, and exposure to the environment. After that, the brow will begin to sag again, but obviously, the patient will still appear better than if no surgery was performed. At some point in the future, the patient may wish to have a secondary lifting to counteract the continuing effects of gravity and aging though this is rare with a brow lift.
Patients recover from the initial effects of the surgery within three days. There will, however, be swelling, discoloration, and restricted activity for at least two weeks. By the third week, patients can resume their normal lifestyles. Temporary effects may include tightness, irregularities, numbness, and weakness of muscles.
Botulinum toxin injections, facial peels and the use of laser resurfacing are some of the other techniques that can be used to improve brow appearance. However, they all have limitations, and their best uses are as ancillary procedures to surgical forehead lift. Although improvements can be expected with their use as single procedures, the patient with truly sagging skin will not benefit from these interventions alone.
What is a Brow lift?
This procedure is performed to rejuvenate the forehead and brow area by removing the extra skin that sags as we age as well as to remove a portion of the muscles that cause frown lines on the forehead and at the base of the nose.
Surgery in Office
The brow lift, or forehead lift, procedure can be performed under local anesthesia in our office and takes two hours.
You may need to have someone stay with you the night after brow lift surgery and can usually resume work in 7-10 days. The cost for the forehead lift includes the operating room fee and all of your follow-up visits. Many patients have a brow lift at the same time as a facelift surgery.
