Facelifts

More than any other procedure, it is the “facelift” or rhytidectomy that has come to be associated with plastic surgery in most people’s mind. The facelift procedure has been performed by plastic surgeons since 1911. Facelifts have continued to evolve since then, as our understanding of the anatomy of the face has evolved. A face lift repositions the facial skin and fat to their natural place to eliminate folds and lines. Facelift surgery generally involves the neck, jowls, the cheeks, and temples. The forehead lift (brow lift) and and eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) can be included as well. The result is a more youthful and restful appearance to the face.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is the name of the operation to remove excess skin and fat from the eyelids. The primary purpose of blepharoplasty is to improve the appearance and, in some cases, the function of the eyelids.  My goal in blepharoplasty is to produce eyelids and eyes that appear natural, function properly and are more youthful in appearance. Blepharoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed. Eyelid lifts are also one of the first procedures that are recommended by plastic surgeons for patients wishing a younger look.

LATISSE Update

You have probably seen the new LATISSE ads and are wondering if it works. Well, I have been using it for the past few months and it works great! After the first 2 months, I started using it every other night and have not seen a decrease in lash length at all. Ana has also been using the Latisse and has a great result. Just think, no more mascara!!

Healthy Eating 101

We all know the key to weight loss: eat less and exercise more. Sounds easy enough, but in the demands of everyday life, it can be anything but simple. So, here are some tried and true strategies for weight loss:

1. Drink plenty of water or other calorie free beverage. Do not mistake hunger for thirst!

2. Think about what you can add to your diet, not eliminate. Stay on track by eating the recommended daily serving of fruit and vegetables before other types of “snack” foods.

3. Consider whether you are really hungry. Do you have physical signs of hunger? When you are done eating, you should never feel “stuffed” or bloated. Stay in tune with your body’s physiological responses to hunger and fullness.

4. Limit nighttime snacking. After dinner, either close down the kitchen or limit yourself to one low calorie snack (under 100 calories).

5. Enjoy your favorite foods. Instead of cutting them out completely, purchase individual serving sizes.  Buy one cookie from the bakery instead of a whole bag.

6. Eat protein at every meal. Protein is more satisfying than carbohydrates or fat, so it will keep you feeling full longer. Include cheese, yogurt, beans or nuts at meals and snacks.

7. Stock your kitchen with healthy convenience foods. Having ready–to-eat snacks on hand and meals-in-minutes staples sets you up for success. If you can make a healthy dinner in 10 minutes, you will be less likely to order pizza or stop at a fast food restaurant on the way home.

8. Be physically active. Do something you enjoy and you will be more likely to stick with it. Think of exercise in terms of all the health benefits you gain, not as a negative you “have to do”.
